It began to rain. It was a light drizzle. Just enough to make the roads slick for me to slip on. It hadn't been a few days since I had seen the waters rise high enough to turn a step into a shore
I watched with anticipation, all the way stepping. Waiting for the rush to hit my shins. For me to be swept away by the torrent...To be taken from the rain.
I could blame the faulty drains, the terrible infrastructure, the government and be sure as hell that is the case.
The same way that people invented gods to blame how many thousands of years ago.We put all these things up just for them to let us down.
But I'm just waiting. Looking at the rain, as it soaks into dry sunbitten asphalt. It returns the illusions otherwise dispersed by sunlight.
A fairy spring spits up from the ground. A dark spot hovers ever so faintly in the air. I hear things rushing beneath the earth. Things that are neither water nor rats.
It's no wonder we blamed gods.
It's a kinder name for these obscured things around us.
I find myself standing before a large crack in the road. There beneath rushing the torrent that might have become the flood.
I wondered what would happen if i stepped across it. If i fell in, could I blame it on some sallow skinned subterranean creature?
Or the powers that be that left that crack there? Or am i just a sorry sod who slipped and fell down the wrong way?
I jumped over the crack with ease.
The rain would slowly die.
And I would never know.
