The Toenail Goblin- The Toenail Goblin like their counterpart, the tooth fairy, likes to collect  body scraps.  However, that is where  the similarities end.  You see, whereas the tooth fairy provides  monetary  benefit  to  their  host, the  toenail  goblin runs a very  convoluted  scam for the  Office of Bodily  Waste.  There is a system in place, regarding human bodily waste.  These material things have value to spirits, who are able to obtain these goods by providing a system of exchange. The more valuable the part, the more valuable the return ought to be. Notable examples include: The tooth fairy, who exchanges teeth for coin.  The blood banshee, who exchanges blood for good fortune. And Death, who exchanges life for meaning.
When applying for their lease to join in this exchange, the toenail goblins found a loophole. There is a floor in regards to the type of things a spirit has to give in return, however, to account for differences in culture, there is no lower or higher end in regards to the value so long as it fits in the typing of the material they are offering in exchange, i.e. different monetary values or different quality of meanings to life. It is a valid return so long as someone values what is being returned. So then the toenail goblins discovered that they could simply offer cheese as a repayment. However, they were wise not to specify the type. 
Whenever one now offers their toenails to the moonlight, when they wake, their toes will be filled with the thickest, most creamy of toe cheeses ever to have existed.  They could have offered simple American, but they wanted to take it a step further,  to really minimize the amount needed to return. Toe cheese was easily cultivated in the valleys between people's toes. They sprouted and grew so quickly with just a little bit of bacteria heat and moisture. and were very nutritious for toenail goblins.  And the worst part is, that it is a totally valid return as, depressingly, more than one person enjoy the taste of such cheeses, thereby filling up the requirement for value.
And so not only is it cheap, it is a valuable sustainable  and nutritious product which facilitated the rise in toenail goblin population in the last decade or so.   They are one of the most populous body spirit after Death.
