I made this with Goya in mind---specifically his work, "El sueño de la razón produce monstruos". His is a fabulous piece that critiqued societal ignorance and the dangers of an anesthetized soul with an unkempt imagination. Monsters spilling from sleeping reason: They watch you and fly to god knows where.
But what of when reason wakes? We learn as children to tuck our nightmares away when daylight comes. Sunlight is supposed to vanquish even the greatest of those terrors. However, when the light hits the skin of these beasts, they become all the clearer. As reason wakes, it will only make their snarling louder. Unless we kill them, they will not leave.
